OST Employee Spotlight

Name: Kimberly Shephard
Office: NYC
Title: Chief Human Resources Officer

Meet Kimberly Shephard! Kimberly Shephard is our Chief Human Resources Officer in the NYC office!

Tell me more about your role within OST, how long you have been with the company and your background?
For about a year now, I have been the Chief Human Resources Officer at Open Systems Technologies.  One of the things I love most about my position is that every day brings me to a new adventure and challenge. Upon being hired, I was initially asked to focus on modernizing the company’s back office (including the payroll, finance, and HR teams) while ensuring we are up to date on all applicable regulations, and following the achievement, I have been focusing on so much more! In just one year, I have led many projects from restructuring our entire back office, to creating our company core values, to establishing our 2018 company goals. But the one I feel the most proud of is our new training program.

What drew you in to work for Open Systems Technologies?
I mention on my LinkedIn profile that I'm a true believer in being a life-long learner so I was drawn to the opportunity with OST for that exact reason.  When I joined the company last year, they were about to embark on a very exciting journey - they were looking to reinvent themselves from the inside and out, which meant everything from rebranding, to organizational development, to employee relations and retention strategies, succession planning, and everything in-between. I had already known OST to be an incredibly successful company and a leader in the IT staffing industry, yet there was still so much room for the company to grow. I admired the new direction they were moving and felt that I could really help bring the company to that next level.

Describe the OST culture?
I would describe the OST culture as entrepreneurial. We tell our recruiters to think of themselves as the CEO’s of their own startups.  We provide all the resources they need to be successful, and at the end of the day they are growing their own book of business. We leave it to them to MAKE IT HAPPEN.  The expectations are high, and so are the rewards. And with that, we believe that happily engaged employees are the most productive and successful employees.  While we are a sales company at our core, we’ve attempted to shatter the stereotype of what a traditional sales office looks and feels like. From the moment you step off the elevator onto our floor, you FEEL the positive energy. You’re surrounded by glass offices and interesting art, we have a beer and wine fridge with free snacks in the kitchen, and people are out of their seats talking and working with one another.  We send out a monthly employee relations calendar that is filled with networking events and opportunities to bond with teammates, because we know the job itself can sometimes be grueling, and we want to ensure we are having FUN as well!

What is your favorite part about working at OST?
The employees. Our recruitment/account management and HR Ops team is second to none. They are smart, hardworking, passionate employees who CARE so deeply. Their positive energy is contagious, and they energize me each and every day.

What are some exciting changes that OST is going through that a potential candidate would be interested in hearing about?
I always say that feedback is a gift, and I truly mean that. So many of the positive and exciting changes that I mentioned earlier stemmed from the ideas of our employees. If you’re looking to join a company that can provide you with all the resources/tools to master the skills you need to be a successful recruiter, works with the biggest players in the industry, and who cares about YOU – then, look no further than OST.
