Meet Nate Resnick! Nate Resnick is a Managing Director in the NYC office!

How did you get your start at Open Systems Technologies (OST)?
A friend told me about recruiting, and it sounded interesting, so I started to apply to recruiting companies and randomly fell on a job with OST.

Tell me more about your career path- how long have you worked at OST and what your title is now?
I’m currently one of four MD’s in the NYC office. I’ve been at OST for 11 years – I started in the training program right out of college. I worked extremely hard and was given the opportunity to lead a team after 5 years and was promoted to MD soon after.

If you could start all over again, would you change your career path in any way? Why?
No, OST has a great environment, opportunity to make a lot of money, and every day you face different challenges and situations.

What parts of your job do you find most challenging?
The most challenging part of recruiting is most definitely the lack of control. Situations and people are often out of your control however your success depends on them. So you can do everything right on your end, but still have issues pop up.

What do find most enjoyable?
Positively impacting someone’s career, to the point where they are truly happy and recommend you to everyone they know.

When you think of the best employees who have worked for you, what makes them stand out in your mind?
They are very hard workers, intensely curious, and they want to know everything that I know.  They consider recruiting a career, not a job.  Also, you have to roll with the punches, and not let people get under your skin.

What do you look for in new hires?
Aggressive curiosity, a genuine interest in recruiting, and some kind of history that displays hard work.  The questions people ask during an interview tell you a lot.

Tell me more about the NYC office- what is your main focus and what type of jobs do you place?
I focus on placing top engineers from all over the country at a number of top hedge funds and Fin-Tech firms in NYC.

What is your favorite part about working in the NYC office?
It’s a very unique environment – casual yet everyone works hard and wants success.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in recruiting?
You can’t make too many phone calls and you can’t ask too many questions.
